Katharina Scheidtmann

Katharina Scheidtmann is a freelance dance artist, choreographer, and instructor based in Berlin. She completed her Bachelor in Dance in Education at ArtEZ University of the Arts in the Netherlands in 2013, followed by a Master in Dance Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin in 2023. In her work, she combines dance, performance, and interdisciplinary practice, developing both solo and collaborative projects at the intersection of art and outreach. Her artistic focus lies in exploring the body, space, and relationships, as well as in participatory and collaborative ways of working. Her practice is shaped by authenticity, openness, and a process-oriented understanding of creativity. She has worked with Sasha Waltz & Guests, Toshiki Okada, INTRODANS, and Danstheater Telder, among others. In 2023, she co-founded the dance collective FREYAS connective with other Berlin-based artists. Alongside her artistic work, she teaches at schools (including TanzZeit) and universities, works with all age groups, and develops seminar formats on dance history, interdisciplinary work, and educational practice—including at seneca intensiv, the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences, and the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Since 2024, she has also been responsible for outreach and public relations at the international dance festival PURPLE. She has been teaching at Papillon Tanz Studios since 2014, where she regularly teaches contemporary dance, improvisation, and jazz dance, and has been leading the Adult Company since 2026.
